Holiday 2006

It is the first day of my holiday for 2006.  A week in a Villa in Menorca with Susan's folks.  I need a rest, a break and a bit of revitalisation so I am really looking forward to it.  With a little bit of luck the weather will be good and I will be able to relax by the pool.  This would be the ideal.  I have no plans for the holiday except to take it easy and not worry about anything! Well except maybe the football but that is different!  This is the forecast for the next three days in Menorca – taken from www.weatheronline.com – looks great!

My Gallery Page

So I have my wish – a gallery page.  Pretty simple really – I used the Lazy-K-Gallery Plug-in and found it relatively easy to install and configure.

It did however, take quite a lot of template and style changes to make it fit, mainly because of conflicting CSS classes.  I managed to get it working though, and I quite like it.  It is very simple to use and view images as thumbnails or as larger, fuller images! You use the breadcrumb or back button for navigation.  One of the good things about it is that there is no javascript or funky scripts to edit just straight forward link management.  Less work for me, having spent the best part of 3 hours getting it to work.

My first gallery is a snapshot of our city tour of the U.S. this time last year. Enjoy! Visit the gallery page [see the page menu in the top right corner] and enjoy the pictures.

My S.E.O Rating

I found this little S.E.O. analyser that is free on the web site for a company called Sitening.  It allows me to enter a URL and will return a reasonable analysis of how I am doing to help with my search engine rankings.  I am not really that bothered about my rankings but I thought it would be good to take a look.

The analysis is made up of various sections, and help me realise that the themes available for Wordpress required some modification to get the basics right.  I had issues with semantic structure, for example H3 HTML tags coming before a
H2 tag and worst of all no H1 tag beign in my site template. Plus many other little style sheet changes and header changes, as well some real cleaning out of some of the code due to deprecated attributes and tags.  All in all, a few more hours has been spent on tidying up the coding of the new site.  But it is always worth it when someone gives you a perfect score! Here is mine, click the link to read my certificate.

England Top Group B

England have finished top of group B following a 2-2 draw with Sweden.  That is the important result from tonight.  England played much better tonight than in the two previous game but still not at the level they are capable of.  The positive is that we topped the group.  There are, in fact, lots of positives to take from tonight.  Hargreaves looked good, despite the criticism, he held the midfield well and let the better players play more freely.  Joe Cole, again England's best player despite getting lost a little in the second half, and what a fantastic goal.  Rooney, managed the best part of 70 minutes, which is a fantastic run out.  Terry again played well and Robinson had a decent game, including a fantastic save onto the bar and couldn't be blamed for the goals.  And finally by topping the group England avoid the home nation.

Simpson parts company with United!

Over the weekend news broke that Paul Simpson has left United (Carlisle United that is) to joining the "Auld Enemy", Preston North End.  I have always stood on the terraces at Carlisle whenever I can.  I enjoy the battle that is a lower league game.  Preston have long been a rival, and always a great game when the sides have met.  I remember several trips to the away games at Preston and the rivalry between the two sets of supporters always made a great occasion.  Having suffered the "Knighton Years" at United and several ups and downs.  The club is moving in the right directions, due in no small part to Paul Simpson.  He rightly says, he came into the club when it was on it's knees.  But he has turned it round, following the bounce back to the football league from the conference at the first time of asking to a wonderful season last year which saw United finish champions of League 2.

World Cup 2006

This is my first post regarding this years World Cup. I should first point out that while I live in Edinburgh, I am English and and a full on supporter of my national side. Unlike, many fans though I like to think of myself as an honest pundit although at time I can be a little biased.

We are 10 days into Germany 2006 and half way through the second round of group matches. England sit on top of Group 2 ahead of Sweded, Trinidad & Tobago and Paraguay and have already qualified for the group stages by winning their opening two games.

On the whole this has been one of the better tournaments for football fans. The quality of the games has been high for the most part. However it seems as if some of the big teams are yet to fire on all cylinders, the French being a prime example of this. The biggest exception to this being Argentina, who are looking so good at the minute I would consider a little flutter on them if the odds hadn't been slashed.

X-Men III

I am just back from seeing X-Men III at the local cinema. I had previously watched the first two, so kind of knew who everyone was. It was a reasonable film, I guess. Certainly not the worst I have ever seen. It wasn't deep or intense which I guess for a Saturday night is exactly what I was looking for. It was enjoyable.

On a slightly ironic note, it was interesting to see the F.A.C.T "Fake DVD" advert again that appears before every film these days. Is it not amusing how they hang on the poor quality of such fake dvd's when the non-digital projector at the back of the cinema produces a grainy, pixelated picture that definitely has blemishes on it? Maybe F.A.C.T. should fix this before damning the quality of fake DVDs.
