Well, that was simple enough! I have successfully moved my WordPress implementation to the root of my site, which in effect makes it live!! Great! I still have things I want to improve and do but this fresh new look makes it a bit more interesting!! I like the simplicity yet power of the WordPress system and am looking forward to getting into blogging mode!

My quest for a site that I like and that works for me

So I am still here working on my site. I haven't really done this in a structured way. I have basically said – what would be nice in my sidebar or as a separate page? Do I want or need this?

One thing I mentioned wanting before is a Gallery Page. It doesn't have to be extravegantly functional just a simple here is a photo, click it to see it bigger and maybe a caption as I don't tend to rename my images!

What I do really like is my random quote generator and the weather! They are just two wordpress plugins that I have implemented and really help my site to be functional for me! I guess I am my own client!
So the quest goes on to build the site I want now!

My new site

So this is going to be my new site. As I write this, I am still working with it in a "dev" (development) folder in my hosting. I have chosen to power it with WordPress for several reasons. Firstly it is free, and that is never a bad thing! Secondly, I wanted a site I can interact with. Having people visit my site is not my first priority, I am generally here several times a day as a launching point to my frequently visted sites. I could use my bookmarks but I am quite lazy like that, I want to open my browser and select a link rather than trawl through an over-flowing bookmarks folder. [For those who are strict Internet Explorer users, bookmarks are the equivalent to Favorites!! Oh and try Firefox!] I have decided to become a blogger, if for no other reason than to express my opinions to no-one in particular. Therefore WordPress becomes a very powerful tool. And finally, a full redesign with fully bespoke coding would be too much like being at work.  Much as I enjoy doing what I do, I need a break form it at times.
