What makes people write to a blog?

So it has been a over a month since my last post to my personal blog. I keep asking myself: What makes people write to their blogs? I look at myself and I struggle to be motivated to maintain .  I have never kept a diary and perhaps that is a natural step that I am missing out.  Another thought is my complete lack of flair for writing.  I do not write anything witty or funny, and it is of no real consequence to anyone except myself, particularly as no-one ever reads it but me.  However, I think the main reason why I don't regularly post is that I do not sit at my personal computer for long periods of time as I used to.  I sit at the computer at work all day, but do not find the time to post, so when I get home I do not have the motivation to put the PC on.

I am no study of blogs but there seems to be a clear separation of who writes them.  there are many people who write them as part of their working day, where the business culture allows them to express themselves in a blog.  It is increasingly becoming a form of journalism, and a way of getting the outside world up to date on what the company is doing, and how the author as an individual is supporting the company.  Alternatively there are those that do it for fun or personal freedom.  Using blogs as a method of communication.

I definitely fit into the latter category.  I write for myself, it is so one day I may be able to look back and say – ah that's what I was doing then.  However in order to do that I must keep trying to post.  What good is a diary if months at a time are missing.  As a memory jog, it must be kept up to date. I will try harder!
