I was reading something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is diametrically opposed to what I read in the first place. I am still contemplating over the various points of view, but I’m leaning heavily toward yours. And irrespective, that’s what is so great about modernized democracy and the marketplace of ideas on-line.

Hi Richard, I have been a coustomer of Virgin Media since August 2009, My package with Virgin is, 10gig broardband, XL tv package V+, and I have had nothing but trouble with the service since it was put in,
1) on the day of instalation, it took me 8hrs on the phone to get the service up and running, I even had a customer service operative that put the phone down on me,
2) the majority of the channels to do work properly, they keep freezing, or are unavailable to to high demand in my area, and there is a delay between using the remote to change programs and actual changing of the program of between 30secs and 2 mins.
3) I get an overwhelming amount of cold calls on the phone, even though I have notified the TPS, and this has only started since changing to Virgin Media.
4) I only went with Virgin Media because of the 10gig broardband, which I know I am not recieving, as it is always going down and I can not get online.
I have been in touch with customer services on many occasions, been promised that a manager will ring me back to sort out the problems, but no one has, I have found that virgin customer services, are very unprofesional and lie to you just to get you off the phone, and have had the phone put down on me, because the customer services person could not figger out what my problem was, in my opinion virgin media is a cowboy company, that fobs you off with any explanation just to get you off the phone, they are unprofesional, and make promises that it has no intention of keeping, and when you try to cancel the service due to their inability to put it right, they say it will cost you £180 to terminate the service, even though its them that are taking money for a service they are not supplying, What can I do to terminate with Virgin, without it costing a fortune ?

Came across your blog entry via Google search in regard to problems I’ve been recently having, and have had several times in the past few years, with Virgin Media’s DNS servers.

So, I followed your lead and switched over to OpenDNS, and all the problems I was having ceased, and web pages are rendering slightly faster to boot.

I use OpenDNS settings on my router rather than Virgin Media’s DNS servers. I used to have problems connecting to various web sites, but since switching to OpenDNS I hardly ever get the “web page cannot be found” error.

I have tried open DNS with my virgin media connection and it has not been too bad. It is a little slow (average ping response of about 60ms) compared to a local DNS service (where I would hope for about 20ms) but there seems to be a problem when it comes to virgin media and DNS servers – whats a boy to do?

I switched to OpenDNS due to this and a few other articles and forum posts out there as Virgin’s DNS servers had really messed up what was an adequate service from Blueyonder. I’m back to having that broadband feel to web-browsing after what was beginning to feel like the old modem days… Have to wonder what Virgin are playing at, anyway noticeable results from OpenDNS, nice one

Started having issues with "Unable to display page" a couple of weekends ago – Virgin Media, everything was fine when it was blueyonder.

Once I realised it was a DNS issue – Google took me straight here and from there I discovered the wonders of Open DNS.

Problem solved! Thanks very much.

Yes it was a pretty big place and I would bet he is sold out every night. I don't think it is as long a run at the Fringe as he has had in previous years.

I think the old jokes that followed the mainstream (attacking the US) spoiled it a little. I had expected something a little more original, but it certainly didn't stop me laughing out loud and having a great evening.
